Cement consumption falls a 23% in January

16/02/2012

In January, cement consumption was 1.1 million tons, a 23.35% less than in the same month of the last year. On the other hand, cement production reached 1.4 million tons that is a fall of 17.26%.

If we analyze the last twelve months, the fall of the production has been slightly superior to 17%, reaching 21.7 million tons, while the consumption continues falling, registering a 18.6% reduction with 19.9 million tons. Regarding to the foreign trade, in the mobile year (February 2011 – January 2012) exports stay in the 3.9 million tons whereas the imports have been reduced a 39%, nearly 1 million tons.

January monthly figures overcome us to 1987 consumption levels due to the collapse in the activity of housing and residential construction and to the stop of public works. This situation will continue worsening if the different administrations do not drive infrastructure programs and housing buildings that guarantee a minimum of activity of the construction sector in Spain.
